Malalayang Beach Pedestrian Walkway

Located along the scenic coastline of Manado, North Sulawesi, the Malalayang Beach Pedestrian Walkway was envisioned as a revitalization project that would enhance the visitor experience while supporting local tourism and economic activity. As one of the region’s most popular waterfront destinations, the project sought to create a more inviting, accessible, and visually cohesive public space through the use of the Indocrete Stamping System.

By integrating decorative concrete into the pedestrian environment, the project transformed a functional pathway into an attractive coastal promenade. The Bomanite Imprint application introduced texture, pattern, and character while delivering the durability required for a high-traffic public space exposed to demanding coastal conditions.

Design Concept

The design inspiration originated from a motif selected from the Indocrete catalogue and was further enhanced through a tropical staining color palette. These carefully chosen tones and textures were intended to reflect the natural beauty of the surrounding shoreline, creating a seamless connection between the pedestrian walkway and its beachside setting.

The Bomanite Imprint System provided the flexibility to achieve a natural stone-inspired appearance while maintaining consistency throughout the project. The decorative patterns and warm tropical hues contribute to a welcoming atmosphere that encourages visitors to explore the waterfront and spend more time engaging with the surrounding environment.

Material Selection & Installation

The Bomanite Imprint System was selected for its ability to combine aesthetic versatility with long-term performance in a coastal environment. Its textured surface enhances visual appeal while providing durability, slip resistance, and ease of maintenance for continuous public use.

Construction presented several logistical and environmental challenges. The project’s proximity to the ocean required careful scheduling around humidity levels and changing weather conditions to ensure proper installation and curing. Material mobilization to Manado also proved challenging due to long-distance transportation routes. To maintain the project schedule, the Indocrete team strategically utilized air freight for essential materials while adapting construction timelines to weather conditions, ensuring quality was never compromised.

The Outcome

Today, the Malalayang Beach Pedestrian Walkway serves as a vibrant public destination that enhances both the physical landscape and the visitor experience. The decorative concrete surfaces create an attractive coastal setting that complements the natural surroundings while improving pedestrian comfort and accessibility.

Beyond its visual impact, the project supports local businesses by encouraging greater visitor activity along the beachfront. Through the successful implementation of the Indocrete Stamping System, the revitalized promenade demonstrates how thoughtful design and durable decorative concrete can contribute to long-term community growth and tourism development.
