Rainforest Wild Asia at Mandai Wildlife Reserve

Rainforest Wild Asia at Mandai Wildlife Reserve represents a groundbreaking addition to Singapore’s wildlife attractions as the country’s fifth wildlife park and Asia’s first adventure-based zoological park. Designed to immerse visitors in the rich ecosystem of a Southeast Asian rainforest, the destination features free-roaming habitats for 36 animal species within an environment that blurs the boundaries between architecture, landscape, and nature. To support this immersive vision, the Bomanite Imprint System was selected as the primary flooring solution throughout the park, delivering durability, sustainability, and design flexibility across high-traffic visitor areas.

As a design-and-build project, every aspect of the flooring was carefully considered to complement the park’s dramatic architecture, particularly the cave-inspired structures influenced by the iconic Mulu Caves of Sarawak. The result is a cohesive visitor experience where the ground plane becomes an integral part of the storytelling journey.

Design Concept

The flooring design was developed to reinforce the feeling of exploring an authentic rainforest environment. Custom colors and textures were selected to harmonize with the natural palette of the landscape and the rugged appearance of the cave-inspired architecture. Rather than competing with the surrounding environment, the Bomanite Imprint System was used to create subtle yet highly detailed surfaces that enhance the immersive quality of the park.

To strengthen the connection to nature, custom leaf imprint patterns were incorporated throughout the flooring design. Native leaves and surrounding plant species were hand-selected on-site and transformed into custom molds, creating unique textures that celebrate the biodiversity of the rainforest while adding visual depth and authenticity to the visitor experience.

Material Selection & Installation

The Bomanite Imprint System was chosen for its ability to combine aesthetic versatility with exceptional long-term performance. The system provided a practical and sustainable flooring solution capable of accommodating heavy pedestrian traffic while supporting future maintenance and park expansion requirements.

A custom imprint pattern was developed by in-house artisans to satisfy strict slip-resistance standards required under Singapore’s latest building regulations without compromising the natural appearance of the flooring. Installation was executed under a demanding schedule and within a sensitive wildlife environment, requiring careful coordination to minimize disruption to animal habitats while maintaining the project’s quality and timeline objectives.

The Outcome

Today, Rainforest Wild Asia demonstrates how decorative concrete can elevate experiential design within world-class zoological environments. The Bomanite Imprint System successfully integrates architecture, landscape, and storytelling, creating pathways that feel organically connected to the rainforest setting while delivering the durability required for daily public use.

Beyond its visual appeal, the flooring system supports the park’s long-term operational goals through sustainable construction, ease of maintenance, and adaptability for future development. The result is an immersive destination where every detail contributes to a memorable and authentic wildlife adventure.
